Bulldogs Return Home For Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team returns home to the Samford Softball Field for the first time in 13 games to host a mid-week doubleheader against Tennessee Tech University on Wednesday, March 18, at 2 & 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs (18-8) have had its previous three midweek games called due to unfavorable weather conditions with the last two scheduled to be at home. The team had its game called against Jacksonville State University in the top of the second inning on March 4, then postponed its most recent game against Mississippi State University on Wednesday, March 11.

There is a slight chance that tomorrow's contest against Tennessee Tech (13-11, 2-1 OVC) could see a few showers but the overall outlook is promising for the Bulldogs and the Golden Eagles to square off against each other for the 34th time overall.

Samford trails Tennessee Tech in the all-time series 12-21 and ended the long-standing series against its' former OVC foe with a 6-5 loss in the 2008 OVC tournament semi-finals. Tech put an end to SU's first tournament run ever to the OVC semi-finals with a walk-off three-run home run by Stephanie Fischer.

Earlier that season the Bulldogs took the regular season series against the Golden Eagles 2-1 (4-1, 6-5, 3-13) at home in Birmingham.

SU is coming into tomorrow's contest with its' first series sweep of the 2015 season when the team traveled down to Jacksonville, Florida to take on Jacksonville University. The Bulldogs dispatched the Dolphins 10-2, 3-2 and 6-0 to cap off the weekend sweep.

The Bulldogs look to spell a hot Golden Eagles team that has won seven of its last nine games and opened up OVC action with 2-1 series win over Tennessee State this past weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.

Samford comes into Wednesday's action with an 8-1 record at home with its only loss coming at the hands of then ranked No. 3 University of Alabama on Feb. 11. The Bulldogs dropped that contest 7-1 but have since then outscored its opponents 63-29 while winning eight-straight at home.
