BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will play host to Alabama State Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
The Bulldogs enter the week with a record of 21-17 overall and 9-3 in Southern Conference play. Samford swept a SoCon series at East Tennessee State over the weekend. The Bulldogs defeated the Bucs by scores of 15-4, 8-4 and 7-4.
For Samford offensively, freshman
Austin Edens is batting .377 with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 34 RBI.
Hunter Swilling shares the team lead in home runs with Edens with 10, and he leads the squad in RBI with 43, to go along with his .310 batting average.
Richard Greene is hitting .333,
Heath Quinn is hitting .322, and
Alex Lee has a .319 average for the Bulldogs. On the mound for Samford, right-hander
Cole Limbaugh will get the starting nod in Tuesday's game.
As a team, Samford leads the nation in both total home runs with 53, and in home runs per game, averaging 1.39. Over the weekend, Samford hit seven homers in its series sweep at ETSU.
The Hornets are currently 27-11 overall and 15-3 in SWAC play. ASU swept a SWAC series with Alcorn State over the weekend.
ASU is led offensively by Cesar Rivera, batting .433 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI. Chris Biocic is batting .379 with seven doubles and 38 RBI, while P.J. Biocic has a .375 average with 36 RBI. Waldyvan Estrada leads the team in home runs with seven and in RBI with 45 so far this season. ASU has not named a starting pitcher yet.

Casey Dunn, Samford has a record of 2-1 against Alabama State. The Bulldogs and Hornets met earlier this season, with Samford coming away with a 12-6 win on March 24, in Montgomery.
