BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team continued spring practice with a two-hour workout in shells Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
The practice was the 12
th of 15 the team will go through this spring. First-year head coach
Chris Hatcher said the team has progressed well as spring practice has continued.
"I thought we had a good day today," Hatcher said. "We had a workman-like attitude out there today. I thought Tuesday might have been the best practice we've had all spring. So, I think we're starting to come together."
The team went through several team and individual drills, and also worked on special teams during Thursday's practice. Hatcher said the team is working more on schemes now as spring practice continues.
"We're starting to focus a little bit more on fixing some scheme issues," Hatcher said. "Our fundamentals are coming along nicely. All-in-all I think we're having a good spring we just need to finish strong on these last three workouts."
Samford will practice again Friday at 4:30 p.m. The team will scrimmage for the final time Saturday morning, and then the Bulldogs will hold one final practice next Tuesday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m.
"Tomorrow will be more of a fundamental day for us," Hatcher said. "We'll really get after it on Saturday with our last scrimmage. And then next Tuesday will be our last practice, and we'll work on some situational things that we maybe haven't hit enough just so it's fresh on their minds as we head into the off season."
Saturday morning, the team will practice beginning at 10 a.m. for about an hour and then the team will scrimmage for the final time. Hatcher said he hoped to have some players step up during Saturday's workout.
"Saturday is the big day," Hatcher said, "We want to see some guys really step up, especially in some live tackling situations."
