GREENVILLE, S.C.--
The Samford women's basketball team will play at Furman in a battle of first-place Southern Conference teams Thursday at 10 a.m. (CT) at Timmons Arena.
 
Samord and Furman enter the week in a three-way tie with Mercer for first place in the Southern Conference. The three teams each have league records of 4-1 so far this season.
 
Samford enters the game with a record of 12-8 overall. The Bulldogs are coming off a 48-43 win over Chattanooga last Saturday.
 
So far this season, Taylor Reece leads Samford in scoring per game, averaging 9.5 points per game. Destiney Elliott averages 9.3 points per game.
         
Elliott leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 7.9 boards per contest. Amara Mayers is second on the team at 4.2 rebounds per game.
         
Brittany Stevens leads the team in assists, dishing out 2.5 assists per game. Elliott averages 2.0 assists per game.
 
Furman comes into the game with an 11-9 overall mark. The Paladins won at UNCG, 75-59, last Sunday.
         
Whitney Bunn leads Furman in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game. Holli Wilkins scores 13.5 points per game for the Paladins.
         
Cierra Carter leads Furman in rebounding, grabbing 7.9 boards per contest. Wilkins averages 4.5 rebounds per game.
         
Bunn also leads the team in assists, dishing out 5.2 assists per game. Wilkins averages 1.4 assists per game.
 
Samford and Furman are meeting for the 16th time, with the Bulldogs holding a 10-5 advantage in the series. The teams split last year's regular-season series. Samford won the first meeting in the Pete Hanna Center, 76-65. Furman came back to win the second meeting in Greenville, S.C. by a score of 64-44. Samford and Furman met a third time last season in the SoCon Tournament, with Furman winning, 65-54.
         
Samford has a record of 4-3 against Furman in Greenville, S.C. The Bulldogs own a 6-1 mark against Furman in Birmingham, and Samford is 0-1 against the Paladins on neutral floors.
 
The game is scheduled for a 10 a.m. (CT) start from Timmons Arena. ESPN3 will broadcast the game online.
