CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The red-hot Samford University volleyball team extended its winning streak to four consecutive matches Friday as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) road Southern Conference victory against The Citadel Bulldogs held at the McAlister Fieldhouse.

With the victory,
Samford (16-10, 7-4 SoCon) continued its triumphant ways in conference play and tied its longest winning streak of the season. Earlier this year, from Sept. 16-23, the Bulldogs rattled off consecutive wins against UTEP, 3-1, New Mexico, 3-2, Houston Baptist, 3-1, and Chattanooga, 3-0.

Samford hasn't suffered a defeat since Oct. 15, and tallied its second straight road victory Friday. Since dropping a tough 3-1 road loss at Wofford on Oct. 15, the Bulldogs have reeled off four straight victories against Chattanooga, 3-0, Western Carolina, 3-0, Furman, 3-1, and
The Citadel (8-19, 1-10 SoCon), 3-0.

On Friday, Samford breezed to its 3-0 triumph with easy wins in sets No. 1 and No. 2, both by a similar count of 25-18. The Citadel nearly upended Samford in the third set, but the Bulldogs held on for a brilliant 25-22 road victory to close out the match.

Samford improved its all-time record against The Citadel to 12-0. The Bulldogs have only allowed the Cadets to win a total of one set in the history of the rivalry. Samford has outscored The Citadel, 36-1, in all-time sets won.

The Bulldogs'
Erin Bognar, the reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, paced Samford with 15 kills Friday. The Bulldogs' talented senior outside hitter from St. Louis, Missouri, also added 12 digs in the victory.

Samford's
Kate Neisler and
Kiahna Wicks turned in kill totals of 10 and seven, respectively. Neisler recorded a solid attacking percentage of .226, while Wicks proved to be nearly perfect with a team-high mark of .700.

Kelsi Hobbs also registered a clutch performance with six kills and three blocking assists.

Sophomore setter
Taylor Anderton led the way with 21 assists, while senior
Erika Pifer proved to be valuable with 17 additional assists.
Grace Tiesman led Samford with 15 digs Friday.

The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs travel to Macon, Georgia, for another critical SoCon road test against the Mercer Bears. The match will be held at Mercer's Hawkins Arena.
