WBB To Open Season At Georgia Tech Friday

GAME NOTES

ATLANTA, Ga. –
The Samford women's basketball team will open its 2016-17 regular-season when the Bulldogs play at Georgia Tech Friday at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
 
Samford returns one starter from a team that posted a record of 20-11 overall and 11-3 in Southern Conference play last season. Senior Brittany Stevens returns for her fourth season as the team's starting point guard. In addition to Stevens, Samford has seniors Ellen Riggins and Lydia McGee returning this season.
 
In addition to the seniors, Samford returns several other experienced players. Juniors Kassidy Blevins and Hannah Nichols, sophomore Cassidy Williams and redshirt freshman Olivia Crozier also return to the team this season.
 
Samford welcomes five true freshmen to the team this season. Katie Allen, Charity Brown, Samantha Fitzgerald, Leslie Golden and Paige Serup join the program as freshmen this season.
 
Samford played its lone exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 7, defeating Shorter, 66-56. In the game for Samford, Nichols led the way with 25 points. Riggins scored 15 points and led the team with six rebounds. Stevens and Blevins shared the team lead in assists with five each.
 
Georgia Tech returns three starters and seven letterwinners from last year's team that posted a record of 20-13 overall and 8-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Among Georgia Tech's key returning players are: Katarina Vuckovic (8.0 ppg., 5.0 rpg.), Antonia Peresson (7.2 ppg., 1.7 rpg.) and Zaire O'Neil (6.6 ppg., 3.0 rpg.).
 
Samford and Georgia Tech will be meeting for the fourth time ever in women's basketball, with Georgia Tech holding a 3-0 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Dec. 13, 2015, with the Yellow Jackets coming away with a 66-55 win in Atlanta.
 
Friday's game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. (CT) start. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
 
Samford will play its first home game on Sunday, Nov. 13, when the Bulldogs host Memphis at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
