LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Lexington, Ky., to take on the 24th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) at Memorial Coliseum.
Samford enters Sunday afternoon's game with a record of 2-3. The Bulldogs are coming off a 69-62 win over UT Martin Wednesday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford is led offensively by
Kassidy Blevins and
Hannah Nichols, both averaging 15.2 points per game.
Samantha Fitzgerald scores 8.6 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Fitzgerald is Samford's team leader in rebounding, grabbing 5.2 boards per contest.
Ellen Riggins averages 5.0 rebounds per game.
Charity Brown leads Samford in assists, dishing out 4.6 assists per game.
Brittany Stevens averages 3.0 assists per contest.
Kentucky comes into Sunday's game with a record of 4-1. The Wildcats are coming off a 74-47 win over Morehead State Wednesday evening.
Kentucky is led in scoring by Evelyn Akhator, averaging 17.2 points per game. Makayla Epps scores 16.6 points per contest.
Akhator also leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 11.4 boards per contest. Alyssa Rice pulls down 5.4 rebounds per game.
Epps is the team leader in assists, dishing out 5.8 assists per game. Taylor Murray averages 2.4 assists per game for the Wildcats.
Samford and Kentucky are meeting for just the second time ever in women's basketball. The programs last met on Dec. 21, 2011. In that previous meeting, Kentucky claimed a 90-61 victory over the Bulldogs.
