Vote For Samford's Erin Bognar To Be Named DI Hero Of The Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University volleyball team extended its home winning streak to five Wednesday as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-18) victory against the Wofford Terriers in a battle for third place in the Southern Conference standings held at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford (18-12, 9-6 SoCon) hasn't been defeated at home since Sept. 24, and owns a stellar 11-2 record at the Pete Hanna Center this season. The Bulldogs also improved their all-time record against
Wofford (17-14, 9-7 SoCon) to a similar total of 11-2. Earlier this season, the Terriers posted a dissimilar 3-1 victory over Samford on Oct. 15.

The Bulldogs' only losses at home in 2016 have come against Indiana State, 3-0, in their second match of the season on Aug. 26, and versus ETSU, 3-2, on Sept. 24. ETSU is currently ranked first in the SoCon with an 11-3 conference record.

In Wednesday's victory, Samford's
Erin Bognar paced the squad with 16 kills and only two attack errors. The three-time defending SoCon Offensive Player of the Week also finished with eight digs, 17.5 points and a .452 hitting percentage. True freshman
Kelsi Hobbs posted a team-high .571 hitting percentage with nine kills and one error.

Senior setter
Erika Pifer turned in a brilliant performance Wednesday with 25 assists. Sophomore
Taylor Anderton added nine assists and tallied a pair of digs in the victory.

The teams battled back and forth in the first set before Samford finally pulled away for the key 25-23 victory. Then, in the second set, the Bulldogs turned in one of their most dominant performances of the season with a 25-13 triumph over Wofford.

During the frame, Samford turned in a phenomenal .750 hitting percentage, as well as a 91-percent sideout performance (11-of-12).

Following their second-set blowout, the Bulldogs continued their momentum in the third stanza and closed out the match with a 25-18 victory. True freshman
Grace Tiesman led Samford with 10 digs on the evening.

In its last five home matches, Samford has outscored its opponents by a total of 15-2.

 The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Friday at 4 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs close out their regular-season schedule at home against the UNCG Spartans.

Due to Samford's 175-year festivities this weekend, Friday's home match against UNCG will be played at historic Seibert Hall, and not the Pete Hanna Center. The contest will mark Samford's first match in the venerable 55-year-old facility in over nine years, dating back to a 3-0 victory over Jacksonville State on Oct. 23, 2007.

Friday's match will also mark Samford's Senior Night contest and fans are encouraged to arrive early for a special presentation for the Bulldogs' 2016 senior class, which is comprised of
Kiahna Wicks, Bognar, Pifer,
Gabbi Greenwald and
Mattie Newson.
