BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University basketball team built a 30-point lead Saturday, 57-27, early in the second half of play against the Miles College Golden Bears and turned in a decisive 92-73 non-conference victory in a cross-town showdown held at the Pete Hanna Center.

With the triumph,
Samford (6-3) extended its winning streak to three consecutive games. Since coming up short on the road at Cincinnati on Nov. 23, the Bulldogs have compiled a 4-1 record with their only loss being a 106-103 double-overtime setback against Nicholls State.

Samford is averaging 92.2 points per game when playing at home this season. The Bulldogs boast a 3-1 mark in the Pete Hanna Center.

Miles College (2-5) outscored Samford, 46-41, in the second half of play and finished with three players scoring in double figures. Shaquille Cook paced the Golden Bears with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Chauncey Day and Sheldon Wright both finished with 13 points apiece.

Samford closed out the non-conference contest with five players scoring in double figures.
Wyatt Walker led the way with 18 points and came one rebound shy of extending his nation-leading total in double-doubles to eight. Walker pulled down nine boards Saturday and is averaging 13.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game this season.

Demetrius Denzel-Dyson scored 16 points and turned in a 3-for-5 shooting performance from 3-point range. The Bulldogs' junior sharpshooter entered the game ranked No. 22 in the nation in 3-point shooting percentage and now boasts a sizzling 52.2-percent mark from beyond the arc.

Christen Cunningham,
Triston Chambers and
Josh Sharkey all turned in 11 points against Miles College. Cunningham handed out a game-high eight assists, while Chambers drained a trio of 3-point baskets.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from long distance and 55.6 percent from the floor. Samford also registered another stellar shooting performance from the charity stripe at 80.8 percent.

The Samford University basketball team will next be in action Friday at 7:05 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs begin a huge two-game road trip against the South Alabama Jaguars in a highly-anticipated, in-state showdown to be held at the Mitchell Center in Mobile.

The Bulldogs will then travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to square off against the Florida State Seminoles at 1 p.m., on Dec. 19, from the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
