BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— In a battle of Southern Conference leaders, the Samford women's basketball team will play at Mercer Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) at Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga.
         
Samford enters the game with a record of 16-8 overall and 8-1 in SoCon games. The Bulldogs are coming off a 57-52 win over Western Carolina on Feb. 6. Mercer comes into the contest at 18-6 overall, and the Bears are also 8-1 in league play. Mercer is coming off an 81-47 win over UNCG on Feb. 6.
 
The teams met earlier this season in a game that came down to the wire. On Jan. 16, Mercer's Kahlia Lawrence hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bears a 63-60 win in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
So far this season, Destiney Elliott leads Samford in both scoring and rebounding at 9.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Taylor Reece averages 8.7 points per game.
         
Amara Mayers is second on the team in rebounding at 3.9 rebounds per game.
         
Brittany Stevens leads the team in assists at 2.6 assists per game. Elliott averages 1.8 assists per game.
 
For Mercer, Lawrence leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game. Linnea Rosendal scores 9.5 points per game for the Bears.
         
Amanda Thompson is Mercer's leader in rebounding, grabbing 6.3 boards per contest. Lawrence pulls down 5.8 rebounds per game.
         
Sydni Means leads Mercer in assists, dishing out 5.6 per game. Lawrence averages 2.5 assists per game for Mercer.
 
Samford and Mercer will be meeting for the 15th time, with Mercer holding a 10-5 advantage in the series. Mercer joined the SoCon prior to the 2014-15 season. The teams were co-members of the Atlantic Sun Conference from 1997 until 2003.
