JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— The Samford women's basketball team will travel to East Tennessee State for a key Southern Conference battle Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CT) at Brooks Gym.
The teams enter the contest just a half of a game apart in the Southern Conference standings. Samford sits in third place in the league standings with an 8-3 SoCon record. ETSU is fourth in the league at 8-4 in conference games.
Samford enters the game with a record of 16-10 overall. The Bulldogs are coming off a 53-30 setback at Chattanooga Wednesday night.
Destiney Elliott leads Samford in both scoring and rebounding at 9.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Taylor Reece averages 8.9 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Amara Mayers is second on the team in rebounding at 3.8 rebounds per game, while
Krista Stricklin averages 3.6 rebounds per game.
Brittany Stevens leads the team in assists at 2.5 assists per game. Elliott averages 1.8 assists per game.
ETSU comes into the game with a mark of 16-11 overall. The Bucs are coming off a 61-45 home loss to Mercer Thursday evening.
Tianna Tarter leads the Bucs in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. Shamauria Bridges scores 15.4 points per game for ETSU.
Shomari Kendrick leads ETSU in rebounding, grabbing 6.6 boards per contest. Sadasia Tipps averages 5.5 rebounds per game.
Chandler Christopher is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.8 assists per game. Tarter averages 3.6 assists per game for ETSU.
Samford and ETSU will be meeting for just the fifth time ever in women's basketball. Samford leads the series, 3-1. The teams met earlier this season in the Pete Hanna Center. In the earlier meeting, played on Jan. 21, Samford came away with a 55-47 win over the visiting Bucs.
