BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— The Samford women's basketball team will host the Furman Paladins in Samford's Play4Kay game Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
The Play4Kay game is an annual event to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research, with proceeds going to the Kay Yow Foundation. The Samford team and marketing staff will be selling pink t-shirts in the Samford Cafeteria during lunch on Wednesday.
In addition to selling the t-shirts, the team will be wearing pink uniforms during the game. Pink t-shirts will also be given away to the first 100 fans at Thursday night's game.
Samford enters the game with a record of 17-10 overall and 9-3 in Southern Conference games. The Bulldogs are coming off a 56-51 win at ETSU on Saturday.
Destiney Elliott leads Samford in both scoring and rebounding at 9.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Taylor Reece averages 8.9 points per game.
Amara Mayers is second on the team in rebounding at 3.7 rebounds per game, while Krista Stricklin averages 3.6 rebounds per game.
Brittany Stevens leads the team in assists at 2.5 assists per game. Elliott averages 1.7 assists per game.
Furman comes into the contest with a mark of 14-13 overall and 7-5 in SoCon games. The Paladins are coming off a 71-56 win over Western Carolina on Saturday.
The Paladins are led in scoring by Whitney Bunn, averaging 15.0 points per game. Holli Wilkins averages 13.6 points per game for Furman.
Cierra Carter leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 8.2 boards per contest. Wilkins averages 4.6 rebounds per game.
Bunn is also the team leader in assists, dishing out 5.3 assists per game. Wilkins averages 1.6 assists per game.
Samford and Furman are meeting for the 17th time, with the Bulldogs holding an 11-5 advantage in the series. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford earning a 58-45 win on Jan. 28 in Greenville, S.C. Samford has a record of 6-1 against Furman in Birmingham, 5-3 in Greenville, S.C., and 0-1 against the Paladins on a neutral floor.
Thursday night's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center. The game will broadcast live on ESPN3.
