BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over the UT Martin Skyhawks Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Complex.

With the win, Samford improves to 4-6 so far this season. The Skyhawks fall to 2-8 with the loss.

UT Martin took the early lead in the match, winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. At No. 3 doubles, Savannah Wood and Georgina Jupp defeated Asel Jumamukhambetova and Elina Geut, 6-1.

In singles, Samford took the win at the No. 1 court, with Jessica Northcutt defeating Sarah Candeloro, 7-5, 6-3. At No. 3, Iva Parapunova earned a 6-2, 7-6 win over Jermima Potter.

Ellie Gerlach earned the win at No. 4, defeating Barcu Tari, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. At the No. 5 spot, Wood defeated Jumamukhambetova, 6-4, 6-2. UT Martin earned singles wins at No. 2 and No. 6, giving Samford the 4-3 victory.

Samford will return to action on Thursday, March 10, when the Bulldogs play at UCF. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. in Orlando, Fla.
