th game of the season against an in-state rival tomorrow on Wednesday, April 13, when the Bulldogs step outside of Southern Conference play to rekindle the rivalry against Troy University in Troy, Alabama at 2 p.m.
How To FollowTwitter - @SamfordSBLive Stats – Game 1 Live Stream – Game 1 Series At A Glance- Samford and Troy will square off for the 58th time on Wednesday, April 13, with the Trojans holding a hearty 40-17 record over the Bulldogs in the all-time series.
- The Bulldogs have not defeated the Trojans since March 30, 2006 when Samford downed Troy in back-to-back games 2-1 & 3-2 in Birmingham.
- The two teams played on a consistent basis from 1998-2003 when both teams where a member of the TAAC or more commonly known now as the Atlantic Sun Conference.
- However four seasons have elapsed without the two programs facing each other on the diamond. The last time was on Feb. 19 & 20, 2011 when the Trojans downed the Bulldogs 4-1 & 6-2 in Troy.
News, Notes & Nuggets- Samford holds a 4-3 record this season against in-state opponents with wins over then ranked No.23 South Alabama, UAB and a pair of wins over Jacksonville State in a three game series. The Bulldogs have dropped contests against then No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Alabama and one on the road against Jacksonville State.
- The Bulldogs are coming off of their third SoCon series victory after the team went 2-1 on the road against Furman University. It was the first-time in program history that Samford took a three-game series on the road against the Paladins.
- Sophomore Shelby Maze was the catalyst for the Bulldogs this weekend as she hit an incredible .728 on the weekend as she recorded multiple hits in all three contests.
- Several Bulldogs have been consistently ranked all season long in the NCAA national statistics. Senior Megan Dowdy ranks 7th in the toughest to strikeout category as she only has done so twice this season and also ranks 19th in doubles per game.
- As a team Samford ranks nationally in batting average (35th), doubles per game (21st), fielding percentage (23rd), home runs per game (44th), scoring (58th) and slugging percentage (28th).
Around The SoCon- Western Carolina will travel to take on North Carolina A&T as a tune-up before traveling down the Birmingham to take on the Bulldogs in a series between the currently ranked top two teams in the SoCon.
- Chattanooga will welcome Georgia State to town on Wednesday for a single-game as they enter their bye-week.
- ETSU is set for a pair of mid-week doubleheaders against Morehead State (4/12) and Presbyterian (4/14) before they make the trek to Mercer for a three-game SoCon series this weekend.
- Furman will play a pair at home against Winthrop (4/12) before they travel to take on UNCG in their SoCon series. UNCG has no mid-week games scheduled.
