Softball To Face Bucs In Johnson City

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team has a chance to make more history this weekend when the team travels to Johnson City, Tennessee to take on second-place ETSU in a three game series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at 10 a.m. CST and a single game on Sunday, May 1, at noon CST.

Series At A Glance
  • The Bulldogs hold the all-time series record against the Bucs with a 4-0 mark. Samford faced ETSU for the first time ever just this past season.
  • Samford took the first-ever series between the two programs when the Bulldogs swept the Bucs at home (7-6, 5-1, 4-1) in a three-game SoCon series. The two squads met again at the SoCon Tournament Championship where the Bulldogs dispatched the Bucs in the initial round 3-1.
  • This weekend provides the opportunity for the Bulldogs to capture their first ever SoCon Regular Season Championship.
 
News, Notes & Nuggets
  • The Bulldogs are on the verge of eclipsing more program milestones as the team has already broken the single-season record for most runs scored (299) and doubles (83). Left on the table within striking distance is hits (487-2015), home runs (51-2015), RBIs (275-2014) and walks (158-2004).  
  • Megan Dowdy and Callie Brister set more individual records this past week as Dowdy captured the career-doubles record and Brister set the new career-record for RBIs. Dowdy is now chasing for sole possession of the career-triples record as she is currently tied for the record with 10.
  • Sophomore Shelby Maze is currently riding and eight-game hitting streak heading into the weekend and has reached base safely in 23 consecutive games for the Bulldogs.
 
Around The SoCon
  • Chattanooga and UNCG currently sit in a three-way tie for second-place in the SoCon standings and the two will square off against each other this weekend in Greensboro, N.C. The Bulldogs will have their eyes on this series as UNCG comes to Birmingham next weekend to end the regular season.
  • Mercer will play host to Furman University this weekend in Macon, Georgia for a three-game SoCon series.
  • Western Carolina will take a break from action this weekend as it is there bye week in SoCon play.
