BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Three undrafted Samford players will report to minicamps next week with National Football League teams.
Defensive lineman
Michael Pierce has agreed to a priority free-agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Defensive back
Trey Wesley has reached a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, and place-kicker
Anthony Pistelli will be in mini-camp with the New Orleans Saints.
Pierce, who was named first-team All-Southern Conference as a senior, finished the 2015 season with 48 tackles, including 27 solo stops. He also had 9.0 tackles for loss during the season.
Wesley had 48 tackles this season, including 36 solo stops. He also had two interceptions and four pass break-ups.
Pistelli, in his lone season in a Samford uniform, was named All-American and first-team All-SoCon. He led the SoCon in scoring, averaging 9.2 points per game. He made 20-of-23 field goal attempts, and he was good on all 41 of his extra-point tries.
The trio brings the number of players from the 2015 Samford football team to sign with an NFL team to four. Cornerback
James Bradberry was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers Friday evening.
Bradberry's selection in the Draft brings the number of Samford players drafted to four in the last five years. Prior to Bradberry, Corey White (2012), Nick Williams (2013) and Jaquiski Tartt (2015) were also selected in the Draft.
