SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On the heels of a second place finish at the SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Championships, sophomore
Sarah Sanford of the Samford University women's track & field team was named Most Outstanding Track Performer by the league office on Wednesday, May 18. The post-championship awards were voted on by the league's coaches.
Sanford raced her way to a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (55.32 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.6) to grab the women's track award.
The Hoover, Alabama native scored 30 points for the Bulldogs, tying her with Cook from WCU for women's Most Outstanding Athlete kudos. The Samford women finished a close second to the Catamounts in the team competition.
The Bulldogs next action will be a trip to the NCAA East Preliminaries which will be held in Jacksonville, Florida on May 26-28.
