BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's and women's track and field teams turned in an impressive performance at the UAB Spring Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Samford student-athletes won a total of 14 events at the meet.
On Friday,
Bryce Davis won the men's hammer throw with a distance of 53.52 meters. J.T. Shaw then won the women's hammer throw at 50.06 meters.
Kyle Kaufelds won the men's javelin with a throw of 64.85 meters.
Kiera-Lee Abrahams took first place in the women's long jump at 5.98 meters.
The team of
Cole Grande,
Chase Webb,
Caleb Yeary and
Bradley Franklin won the men's 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:25.08, which is a new facility record.
Jess Edwards won the women's 1500 meters, running the race in 4:28.82.
On Saturday's second day,
Arthur Chitty took first place in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.10 meters. Shaw won the women's shot put with a distance of 13.56 meters. Davis earned the win in the men's shot put at 16.22 meters.
Gilbert Stein won the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.25 seconds.
Franklin won the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.60 seconds.
Mac Meredith won the men's 800 meters, running the race in 1:52.67.
Samuel Werner won the men's 400-meter hurdles at 53.81 seconds. Grande took first place in the men's 400-meter run with a time of 47.10 seconds.
Next up, Samford will compete in the Troy Invite, April 3-4, in Troy, Ala.
