BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team is set to conclude the Southern Conference regular season at home with a three game series against UNCG. The two squads will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. then cap off the series with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 8.
The 2016 senior class will be recognized on Sunday prior to the start of the series finale against UNCG.

Series At A Glance
- The Bulldogs trail in the all-time series 11-14 to the Spartans but have won the last six meetings between the two teams. The last time UNCG defeated Samford was on March 22, 2014 when the team from Greensboro, N.C. took the first game 3-2 of a three-game SoCon series here in Birmingham.
- The 2016 senior class holds a 7-4 record over UNCG.
- This weekend provides the opportunity for the Bulldogs to capture their first ever outright SoCon Regular Season Championship and a No. 1 seed heading in to the SoCon Championship Tournament next week.
News, Notes & Nuggets
- The Bulldogs are on the verge of eclipsing more program milestones as the team has already broken the single-season record for most runs scored (299), RBIs (290) and doubles (83). Left on the table within striking distance is hits (487-2015), home runs (51-2015) and walks (158-2004). Samford only needs one more home run and one more walk to break those two records.
- Megan Dowdy comes in to this weekend's series ranked second in the country in doubles per game (0.45) and ranks nationally as the 5th toughest batter to strikeout. Dowdy has smashed a single-season record 23 doubles and has only struck out twice this season as she hasn't done so in 139 consecutive at-bats.
- Sophomore Shelby Maze is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak heading into the weekend and has reached base safely in 26 consecutive games for the Bulldogs. The Morris, Alabama native became Samford's single-season record holder for stolen bases in a season with 19 which is close to breaking Megan Dowdy's record she set in 2014 as a sophomore herself.
- Redshirt-senior pitcher Mollie Hanson is 9-0 on the season at home inside the SU Softball Stadium with a 1.72 ERA and holds a career-record of 30-6 in the circle at home.
- The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 128 to 64 at home so far this season.
- Samford has only been swept at home twice since joining the SoCon in 2009. The only team to do so was Chattanooga in 2010 and 2012.
- Since the new SU Softball Stadium opened towards the end of the 2013 season Samford has only dropped one Southern Conference series in the new facility and that was to Mercer in 2015 when the Bears took the series 2-1.
