BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently released its academic awards, and Samford women's tennis earned All-Academic Team status, and five Bulldogs were named Scholar Athletes.
Samford's five individuals earning the Scholar Athlete award are
Ellie Gerlach,
Carita Moolman,
Jessica Northcutt and
Iva Parapunova.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letterwinners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letterwinner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Samford is one of six Southern Conference schools to earn the All-American Team award, and to have at least one student-athlete to be named a Scholar Athlete.
During the 2015-16 season, despite a young lineup, Samford went 4-3 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs also reached the finals of the SoCon Tournament for a third-straight season.
