Women's Hoops Set To Play At UNCG Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball team will conclude its current Southern Conference road swing with a game at UNCG Saturday at 3 p.m. (CT) at Fleming Gymnasium.
 
The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1 or on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu. The game can also be viewed online via ESPN3.
 
Samford comes into the game with a record of 7-10 overall and 1-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 49-42 win at Western Carolina Thursday night.
 
Samford head coach Mike Morris enters the game just one win away from becoming the first coach in Samford women's basketball history to win 250 games. Now in his 15th season as the program's head coach, Morris has a record of 249-193.
 
So far this season, Samford is led in scoring by junior Hannah Nichols, averaging 14.9 points per game. Junior guard Kassidy Blevins scores 10.8 points per game for the Bulldogs.
 
Freshman Samantha Fitzgerald is the team leader in rebounding, grabbing 4.2 boards per contest. Senior Ellen Riggins averages 4.1 rebounds per game for Samford.
 
Senior Brittany Stevens leads Samford in assists, dishing out 3.1 assists per game. Freshman Charity Brown averages 2.6 assists per game for the Bulldogs.
 
UNCG comes into the game with a record of 9-9 overall and 0-3 in Southern Conference play. The Spartans are coming off a 77-64 loss to Mercer Thursday night.
         
Nadine Soliman leads UNCG in scoring, averaging 18.0 points per game. Te'ja Twitty averages 10.3 points per game for the Spartans.
         
Twitty leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 7.5 boards per game. India Timpton averages 4.7 rebounds per game.
         
Alexis Pitchford leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.8 assists per game. Bailey Williams averages 3.1 assists per game for UNCG.
 
Samford and UNCG will be meeting for the 16th time, with Samford holding an 11-4 advantage in the series. The two teams met twice last season, with Samford earning two wins. In the first meeting, Samford came away with a 57-52 win in Greensboro, N.C. Samford later earned an 80-49 win in the Pete Hanna Center.
