JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Samford University volleyball team suffered its second straight Southern Conference road defeat Saturday as the Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision against the ETSU Buccaneers in an early-season league showdown held at Brooks Gym.

With the loss,
Samford (8-12, 3-3 SoCon) completed its four-match, two-week conference road swing with a 2-2 record. After sweeping Western Carolina and UNCG last week, the Bulldogs came up short against both Chattanooga, 3-1, and
ETSU (8-9, 4-2 SoCon), 3-1, this week.

On Saturday, the Buccaneers took the first two sets from Samford, 25-21 and 25-21, before the Bulldogs rallied back to win the third frame, 25-17. In the fourth set, ETSU came out with a vengeance and posted a lopsided 25-9 triumph to close out the home victory.

Samford's
Krista Boesing led the team with 17 kills, while
Kelsi Hobbs finished second with eight. Sophomore
Grace Tiesman notched 16 digs in the contest, as Hobbs added 11. Junior setter
Taylor Anderton registered a game-high 31 assists.

The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to face the Mercer Bears at home in the Pete Hanna Center.
