Men's Golf Set For All-American Intercollegiate
2.16.17 | Men's Golf
HOUSTON, Texas.—The Samford men's golf team will open the spring portion of its season this weekend at the All-American Intercollegiate, presented by Coca-Cola, at the Golf Club of Houston (Par 72, 7,096 yards).
Â
"I'm really feeling upbeat, we've had a lot of good practice leading up to this tournament," Samford head coach Al DelGreco said. "The golf course should be in really good shape. It's a really strong field. A lot of good, good college golf teams will be there, so it will give us a good idea right off the bat where we stand and how much we've improved."
Â
Joining Samford in this weekend's event is an impressive field, including Houston, Auburn, Baylor, Charlotte, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, South Carolina, Southeastern Louisiana, UT San Antonio, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
Â
The teams will play one round each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, Samford's tee times will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday's tee times will begin at 9 a.m., while Sunday's round is set to begin at 8 a.m.
Â
Samford's starting five for the event will be senior Garrett Moores, sophomores Aaron Walker and Crawford Flach, and freshmen Harlan Winn and Alec Stopperich.
Â
"I like the five guys that I've got going to this event," DelGreco said. "I feel like they're all playing pretty well right now. We're just looking for improvement and to see how much we learned from the fall and how much we can apply going forward this spring."
Â
For the fall season, Moores was second on the team with a 74.56 stroke average in nine rounds of action. Stopperich averaged 74.83 over six rounds of golf. Winn had a 75.78 average in nine rounds, while Flach averaged 76.11 in nine rounds.
