Prior to the game, Samford will hold its Senior Day ceremonies. Seniors
Lydia McGee,
Ellen Riggins and
Brittany Stevens will be honored prior to their final game in the Hanna Center.
"Saying goodbye to Brittany, Lydia and Ellen will be tough," Samford head coach
Mike Morris said. "They are three young ladies who have as high of a character and work ethic as anyone we've had in our program."
Stevens is in her fourth year as the team's starting points guard, and she currently ranks sixth in school history in steals with 149 and games started at 107, and she ranks seventh in program history in assists with 288. Riggins has stepped into a starting role this season at the "P" position, and is averaging 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, and she is second on the team in assists with 62 so far this season. McGee has battled injuries throughout her time at Samford. Despite her injuries, she has scored 562 career points, grabbed 329 rebounds and dished out 162 assists.
"Each one of them brings their own unique things to our team," Morris said. "Brittany has been a starter for four years as our point guard and leader. Ellen has been a backup, but has played a huge role as a senior this year as a starter at the P. And then Lydia has battled through all kinds of injuries. Through it all, all three of these young ladies have demonstrated the amount of toughness, grit and character that we are super proud of. They represent what I hope Samford women's basketball is all about."
