MARTIN, Tenn. – The Samford softball team will travel to Martin, Tenn., to take part in the Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic, hosted by UT Martin, Saturday and Sunday.
 
On Saturday, Samford will take on Western Illinois at 10 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. matchup with the host, UT Martin. Sunday's schedule will be the same, with Samford playing Western Illinois at 10 a.m. and UT Martin at 12:30 p.m.
 
Samford enters the tournament with a record of 7-18 so far this season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 7-4, eight-inning loss to Western Kentucky Tuesday afternoon.
 
So far this season, Shelby Maze has led the team with an impressive .449 batting average with a team-high 40 hits. Maze is tied for the Southern Conference lead in hits, and she ranks third in the league in hitting. She also ranks third in the league in stolen bases, with 11 in 12 attempts.
 
Madison Couch is batting .329 entering the weekend. Abby Sweeney has a .290 average with two home runs and 14 RBI. Hannah Trombley is the team leader in RBI with 17 so far this season.
 
Samford's pitching staff has been led by senior Grey Adams, with a 2.81 ERA and a 4-6 record. She leads the team and ranks fourth in the SoCon with 57 strikeouts. Fellow senior Jessica Stone has a 4.14 ERA, while freshman Taylor DeCelles has posted a 4.61 ERA.
 
Western Illinois has a record of 9-15 entering this weekend's tournament. The Leathernecks were swept in a doubleheader by Murray State on Wednesday, falling by scores of 2-1 and 5-1. UT Martin is currently 17-6. The Skyhawks are coming off a 7-5 loss to Weber State last Saturday.
 
Samford has an all-time record of 0-1 against Western Illinois. The Bulldogs own a 10-5 all-time mark against UT Martin.
