Track & Field Heads To Three Prominent National Meets

Members of the team will be heading to Gainesville, Fla., Austin, Texas, and Palo Alto, Calif.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Samford University track and field team will be sending student-athletes to a trio of top-flight national meets this weekend as the Bulldogs are slated to compete in the Florida Relays, Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational.
A majority of Samford's athletes will be participating in the 2017 Florida Relays, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Percy Beard Track.
The following is a list of the Bulldogs' 22 student-athletes competing in the Florida Relays: Emmanuel Tait (110-meter hurdles), Carson Howe (400-meter dash), Dominic Smith, Jr. (400-meter dash), Karisa Nelson (800-meter run), Brandon Hazouri (800-meter run), Victoria Wicks (400-meter hurdles), Jay Vines (400-meter hurdles), Emma Garner (1500-meter run), Shian Mallory (1500-meter run), Presley Weems (1500-meter run), Owen Bailey (1500-meter run & 3000-meter steeplechase), Josh Salter (1500-meter run & 3000-meter steeplechase), Camille Caldwell (Hammer throw & Discuss throw), Maggie Johnston (Discuss throw), Erin Hines (Long jump), Marquis Barnes (Long jump), Gavin Gautreau (Pole vault), Chris Thrasher (Pole vault), Javion Lee (Triple jump), Aerial Horton (Shot put), Selena Popp (High jump) and Courtney Prengaman (High jump).
The Florida Relays, which is one of the country's top events this season, will also consist of the following national-ranked (men/women) teams:
Samford, behind Nelson's brilliant, first-place, national championship performance in the women's mile earlier this month, finished the 2017 indoor season ranked No. 21 in the country.
Samford will also be sending a pair of standout athletes to the world-renown Texas Relays this weekend. Junior Tray Oates, the reigning Southern Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, will be among the nation's elite competing in the pole vault, while Keyth Fightmaster is expected to battle for the championship title in the high jump.
The 2017 Texas Relays will be held Friday and Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Last but not least, Samford's Arsene Guillorel is scheduled to compete in the premier long distance meet of the weekend, the Stanford Invitational. Guillorel recently dominated the in-state competition at the Samford Alabama Track Challenge over the weekend.
Guillorel, the Bulldogs' talented junior from Pontchateau, France, cruised to a 14-second triumph in the men's mile as he recorded a dominant time of 4:10.20, while South Alabama's Luke Fielding placed second at 4:24.17.
The 2017 Stanford Invitational will be held Friday in Palo Alto, California.
