BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will host the 12th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Samford Softball Stadium.
Admission to Tuesday night's game is free.
Samford enters the week with a record of 21-29 overall and 9-6 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games from Mercer over the weekend. Samford won the first game, 4-3, dropped the second game, 6-4, and came back to win the final game, 6-3.
At the plate, Samford has been led so far this season by center fielder
Shelby Maze, who leads the SoCon and ranks second in the nation in hits with 77. She also leads the SoCon in batting with a .428 average.
Abby Sweeney, who was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week this week, is batting .340 with nine doubles, eight home runs and 34 RBI. Last week, Sweeney went 9-for-13 (.692) with three doubles and one home run on the way to earning the SoCon weekly honor.
Madison Couch is hitting .312, while
Hannah Trombley has 32 RBI, and
Abbie Miranda has 29.

Grey Adams has a 10-11 record, a 3.10 ERA and 104 strikeouts.
Jessica Stone has a 3.29 ERA and an 8-6 record.
Alabama comes into the week with a record of 37-11 overall and 10-7 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide dropped two non-conference games to ninth-ranked Washington over the weekend. Alabama fell in the games by scores of 3-2 and 3-0.
Samford and Alabama have played 22 previous times, with Alabama holding a 20-2 advantage in the series. Last season, Alabama defeated Samford by a score of 10-0 in five innings in the regular season. The teams also met in an NCAA Regional, with the Crimson Tide winning, 3-0. Both of Samford's wins in the series came in 1997, with Samford sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 5-1 and 8-6.
