ATLANTA, Ga. – The Samford softball team will take a weekend away from Southern Conference play when the Bulldogs play a doubleheader at Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
Samford comes into the weekend with a record of 21-30 overall and 9-6 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs dropped an 8-1 decision to 13
th-ranked Alabama Tuesday evening at the Samford Softball Stadium. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games last weekend in a SoCon series against Mercer.
The Bulldogs are led at the plate by center fielder
Shelby Maze, hitting a SoCon-best .421. Maze is currently tied for second in the nation in hits with 77 so far this season.
Abby Sweeney is batting .333 with a team-high eight home runs and a team-high 34 RBI.
Madison Couch has a .308 average with two home runs and 13 RBI.
Hannah Trombley has driven in 32 runs, while
Abbie Miranda has driven in 29 runs for the Bulldogs this season.
Grey Adams has led the team in the circle with a 10-11 record and a 3.10 ERA. Adams ranks second in the SoCon with 104 strikeouts.
Jessica Stone has an 8-6 record and a 3.25 ERA so far this season.
Georgia Tech comes into the twin bill with a mark of 15-33 overall and 6-15 in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 2-1, 12-inning win at Kennesaw State Tuesday. Georgia Tech was swept in a three-game ACC series at Boston College last weekend.
Samford and Georgia Tech have played 65 previous times, with the Yellow Jackets holding a 41-24 advantage in the series. The teams last met in 2002, and Samford's last win in the series came in 1999.
