Day Two Results
AUBURN, Ala. -- The Samford University track and field teams closed out the 2017 Tiger Track Classic in impressive fashion Saturday as the Bulldogs earned 11 top-10 finishes and eight top-five performances on the second-and-final day of the 17-team competition held at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the campus of Auburn University.

Samford dominated the men's pole vault as three Bulldogs earned top-five finishes. Junior All-American
Tray Oates led the way with a second-place performance, while
Chris Thrasher and
Gavin Gautreau finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Oates cleared an impressive height of 5.30 meters in the competition to take second place. Thrasher posted a mark of 4.85 meters, while Gautreau notched a height of 4.70 meters in the event.

Samford also registered a pair of top-five finishes in the men's high jump. The Bulldogs' sophomore standout
Keyth Fightmaster placed second in the event with a height of 2.12 meters. Additionally, Samford's highly-touted freshman Jan Waarvik earned a fifth-place performance with a tally of 1.93 meters.

Samford's women also proved to be impressive Saturday against some of the best athletes in the Southeast.

True freshman standout
Presley Weems earned a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.11, while senior
Lindsey Kessler placed eighth in the pole vault. Kessler, the Bulldogs' talented native of Knoxville, Tennessee, registered a height of 3.60 meters in the competition.

A trio of Samford student-athletes finished in the top 10 in the women's high jump Saturday.

Selena Popp and
Courtney Prengaman placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with an identical height of 1.70 meters, while junior
Carrie Neill finished tied for 10
th place with a mark of 1.65 meters. Samford proved to be the only team in the field to finish with three competitors in the top 10.

The Bulldogs'
Maggie Johnston, only a freshman this season, continued her string of brilliant performances Saturday. In the discus throw, Johnston finished fifth with a distance of 45.64 meters. Just two weeks ago, Johnston was named the Southern Conference's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

The 2017 Tiger Track Classic featured a large field this weekend. Along with Samford and the homestanding Auburn Tigers, the two-day event also included UAB, Alabama A&M, Boston University, Cincinnati, Columbus State, Furman, Georgia State, Holy Cross, Indiana State, Northeastern, UNC-Wilmington, South Alabama, SEMO, Troy and Western Carolina.

The Samford University track and field teams will next be in action Thursday through Saturday, April 13-15, at the 2017 USA Invitational being held on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
