CHICAGO -- The Samford University volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss on the final day of competition at the 2017 Rambler Classic on Sunday as the Bulldogs were defeated by the homestanding Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 24-26, 25-20, 20-25, 18-25, in the four-team, three-day competition held at Gentile Arena on the campus of Loyola-Chicago.

Samford (2-4) closed out the tournament with a 1-2 record. The Bulldogs' junior outside hitter
Krista Boesing was named to the all-tournament team along with Milwaukee's Jenn Dore, Fairfield's Mayda Garcia and Loyola's Morgan Gresham.

Sophomore
Kelsi Hobbs led Samford with 19 kills Sunday, while Boesing followed closely with 17.
Elise Watford chipped in with nine and
Shayla Phillip added eight.

Junior
Taylor Anderton finished the contest with a match-high 54 assists. She also added a team-high 12 digs and three block assists. Senior
Morgan St. Germain and Hobbs both tallied double-digit digs as well with 12 and 11, respectively.

Loyola (1-5) claimed the opening set by a count of 26-24, but then Samford bounced back to grab set two, 25-20. The Ramblers then took charge for the remainder of the match as they claimed the third frame, 25-20, before closing out the victory with a 25-18 win in set four.

Heather Kocken paced a well-balanced attack for Loyola with 14 kills. Gabi Maciagowski added 13 for the Ramblers.

The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Friday at 9 a.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs begin play in the highly-competitive New Mexico State Invite to be held in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
