Women's Basketball To Host Mercer In First Home SoCon Game Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will play its first home Southern Conference game of the season when the Bulldogs host league-leading Mercer Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. Admission to the game is FREE.
 
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with Curt Bloom (play-by-play), Emily London-Swaim (Color) and Kallee Taulbee (Sideline) calling the action. Links to follow the game are below.

SAMFORD
1). The Samford women's basketball team comes into Saturday's game with a record of 8-9 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 58-46 setback at Wofford last Saturday.
 
2). As a team, Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in three-pointers made per game (6.3) and the team ranks second in assists per game (14.6) and free throw percentage (.739).
           
3). Individually, Charity Brown ranks second in the Southern Conference in both assists per game (6.4) and assist-turnover ratio (1.8), and she ranks fifth in steals (1.6). Olivia Crozier ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (.541), while Hannah Nichols ranks second in the SoCon in blocked shots per game (1.2), third in rebounding (7.3), and fifth in three-pointers made per game (2.1), three-point percentage (.347) and scoring (15.1).
 
4). Samford is led in scoring and rebounding by senior guard Hannah Nichols, averaging 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Olivia Crozier averages 9.9 points and 5.2 boards per contest.
 
5). Hannah Nichols currently ranks second in school history in both 3-pointers made (229) and 3-pointers attempted (621). She also ranks fourth in school history in scoring (1,335), field goals made (474) and blocks (74), while ranking fifth in field goals attempted (1,100), and ninth in rebounding (483).
 
MERCER
1). Mercer has a record of 15-2 overall and 2-0 in league games. The Bears won at Furman, 86-64 on Jan. 6. Mercer has won its last 12-straight games, entering Saturday's contest.
           
2). The Bears are led by Kahlia Lawrence, averaging 19.2 points per game. KeKe Calloway averages 18.9 points per game for the Bears.
           
3). Amanda Thompson is the team leader in rebounding, grabbing 6.4 boards per contest. Lawrence is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game.
 
4). Sydni Means leads Mercer and the SoCon in assists, dishing out 8.5 assists per game. Lawrence averages 2.4 assists per game for the Bears.
 
5). Samford and Mercer will be meeting for the 20th time, with Mercer holding a 14-5 advantage in the series. The teams met three times last season, with Mercer winning all three games. The Bears won the games in Macon (59-49), Birmingham (76-68) and at the SoCon Tournament (63-52).
