Women's Basketball Set To Host UNCG In Key SoCon Game Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will wrap up its current three-game home stand by hosting UNCG Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center. Admission to all Samford women's basketball home games is FREE.
 
The game will air live on ESPN3. Curt Bloom (PxP), Jovanka Ward (Color) and Kallee Taulbee (Bench) will call the action. Links to follow the game are below.

1). The Samford women's basketball team comes into Saturday's game with a record of 9-10 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 62-54 win over Western Carolina Thursday.
 
2). As a team, Samford is currently tied for the Southern Conference lead in three-pointers made per game (6.1) and the team ranks second in assists per game (14.6).
 
3). Individually, Charity Brown ranks second in the Southern Conference in both assists per game (6.4) and assist-turnover ratio (1.9). Olivia Crozier ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (.563), while Hannah Nichols ranks third in the SoCon in blocked shots per game (1.2) and rebounding (7.2), and fifth in three-pointers made per game (1.9) and three-point percentage (.340).
 
4). Samford is led in scoring and rebounding by senior guard Hannah Nichols, averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore Olivia Crozier averages 10.3 points and 5.4 boards per contest.
 
5). Hannah Nichols ranks second in school history in both 3-pointers made (229) and 3-pointers attempted (623). She ranks fourth in SU history in scoring (1,339), field goals made (475), field goals attempted (1,106) and blocks (75), and she ranks ninth in rebounding (489)
 
UNCG
1). UNCG has a record of 8-12 overall and 2-3 in SoCon play. The Spartans are coming off an 80-57 loss at Mercer Thursday.
           
2). UNCG is led in scoring by Nadine Soliman, averaging 12.9 points per game. Ije Ajemba averages 12.0 points per game for the Spartans.
 
3). Ajemba leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 12.7 boards per contest. Alexus Wiley averages 4.0 rebounds per game.
           
4). Brandi Fier leads UNCG in assists, dishing out 3.8 assists per game. Alexis Pitchford averages 2.1 assists per game.
 
5). Samford and UNCG will be meeting for the 20th time, with Samford holding a 13-6 advantage in the series. The teams met twice last season, with UNCG winning both contests. The Spartans won the game in Greensboro, 64-40, and UNCG took the game in Birmingham by a score of 55-47. Samford has a record of 7-2 against UNCG in the Pete Hanna Center. The Bulldogs are 5-4 against the Spartans in Greensboro, N.C., and the team is 1-0 against UNCG at neutral sites.
