Women's Basketball To Open SoCon Play At Furman Thursday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford women's basketball team will open Southern Conference play with a game at Furman Thursday at 4 p.m. (CT) at Furman's Timmons Arena.

1). The Samford women's basketball team comes into Thursday night's game with a record of 8-7. The Bulldogs bring some momentum into the game, having won five of their last six games, including a 66-61 win over Hampton Dec. 30.
 
2). Samford is led in both scoring and rebounding by senior guard Hannah Nichols, averaging 15.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore Olivia Crozier averages 10.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
 
3). Samford sophomore Charity Brown currently ranks eighth in the nation in assists per game. Through the first 15 games of the season, Brown is averaging 7.1 assists per game. In addition to her assists, Brown also ranks third on the team in scoring (8.2 ppg.) and second in rebounding (5.1 rpg.).

 4). Hannah Nichols ranks second in school history in both 3-pointers made (228) and 3-pointers attempted (610). She also ranks fourth in school history in scoring (1,310) and field goals made (465), while ranking fifth in blocks (69), sixth in field goals attempted (1,071) and ninth in rebounding (460).
 
5). As a team, Samford currently ranks second in the Southern Conference in both three-pointers made per game (6.5) and in assists per game (15.6). Individually, Charity Brown ranks second in the Southern Conference in both assists per game (7.1) and assist-turnover ratio (2.0). Olivia Crozier ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (.562), while Hannah Nichols ranks third in the SoCon in three-pointers made per game (2.3), fourth in three-point percentage (.378) and she ranks fifth in the league in scoring (15.4).
 
FURMAN
1). Furman enters Thursday's game with a record of 9-5. The Paladins are coming off a 76-75 overtime loss at Presbyterian Dec. 30.
           
2). Furman is led in scoring by Cierra Carter, averaging 16.4 points per game. Le'Jzae Davidson scores 14.7 points per game for the Paladins.
           
3). Carter also leads the team in rounding, grabbing 6.7 boards per contest. Stephanie Oramas is the team leader in assists, dishing out 4.6 assists per game.
 
4). As a team, Furman leads the Southern Conference in field goal percentage (.448), and the Paladins rank second in the league in scoring (71.5 ppg.).
 
5). Samford and Furman are meeting for the 20th time, with the Bulldogs holding a 12-7 advantage in the series. The teams met twice last season, with Furman winning both contests. The Paladins won the first game, 54-50 in Birmingham, and the second contest, 53-48 in Greenville, S.C. Samford has a record of 7-2 against Furman in Birmingham, 5-4 in Greenville, and 0-1 against the Paladins at neutral sites.
