GREENVILLE, S.C. – For the third time in Southern Conference play, the Samford volleyball team fell behind, 2-0, but came back to take a 3-2 (22-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 15-13) win at Furman Friday evening.
With the win, Samford improves to 12-11 overall and 7-2 in SoCon play. Furman falls to 8-12 overall and 4-5 in league matches.
KEY MOMENTS
- The first set was tight throughout, with neither team able to grab more than a two-point lead until Furman took a 19-16 advantage.
- Samford fought back to tie the score at 21-21, but Furman scored four of the next five points to take the 25-22 set victory.
- In the second set, Furman used a 6-1 run to take an 18-13 lead, forcing a Samford timeout.
- Samford fought back to knot the score at 24-24, but two-straight Furman points gave the Paladins the 26-24 set win.
- Samford jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the third set, but Furman answered with a 6-0 run to tie the score at 13-13.
- The Bulldogs scored the next six points to take a 19-13 lead, and Samford pulled out the 25-22 win.
- In the fourth set, with Furman leading 10-8, Samford went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-10 lead, forcing a Furman timeout.
- Furman fought back to close to within one at 21-20, but Samford held on for the 25-22 win, forcing a fifth and deciding set.
- The teams traded points early in the fifth set until Samford was able to take a 12-9 lead.
- Furman, however, fought back to tie the score at 12-12, forcing a Samford timeout.
- Coming out of the timeout, Samford scored three of the next four points to take the set, 15-13 and the match, 3-2.
