Volleyball Falls At Home To ETSU, 3-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller to SoCon-leading ETSU, 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 9-15) Saturday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. With the loss, Samford falls to 13-13 overall and 8-4 in SoCon play. ETSU improves to 21-5 overall and 10-1 in league matches.

KEY MOMENTS

·       The first set was close until Samford was able to take a 23-18 lead.

·       The Bulldogs took the first set by a score of 25-20.

·       The second set was tight throughout.

·       With ETSU leading, 19-18, Samford went on a 5-1 run to take a 23-20 lead, and the Bulldogs eventually took the set, 25-21.

·       In the third set, Samford took an early 9-6 lead, but ETSU fought back to take the lead.

·       The Bucs led by as many as four points at 23-19, and they eventually won the set, 25-21.

·       Samford led early in the fourth set, but ETSU was able to come back for a 14-11 lead.

·       The Bulldogs fought back to cut the lead to one at 20-19, but the Bulldogs could get no closer as ETSU won the fourth set, 25-21.

·       Samford jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set, but ETSU fought back to take a 7-6 lead, forcing a Samford timeout.

·       With ETSU leading, 11-9, the Bucs scored four-straight points to take the set, 15-9, and the match, 3-2.

FROM THE BOX SCORE

·       Lauren Deaton led Samford with 19 kills and 15 digs.

·       Krista Boesing tallied 15 kills.

·       Kelsi Hobbs had 10 kills and 12 digs.

·       Taylor Anderton finished with 51 assists.

NEXT UP

Samford will travel to Charleston, S.C., to play at The Citadel next Friday, Nov. 2. The match is set for a 4 p.m. (CT) start.
