BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team swept the Mercer Bears, earning a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-23) win Friday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. With the win, Samford improves to 9-10 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. Mercer falls to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in league matches.

KEY MOMENTS

The first set was tight early until with Samford leading, 9-7, the Bulldogs went on a 9-3 run to take an 18-10 lead.
Samford built its lead to 10 at 22-12, and eventually won the first set, 25-15.
In the second set, with Samford leading, 9-8, the team went on a 9-2 run to push its lead to 18-10.
Mercer fought back to cut the lead to four at 24-20, but a kill by Elise Watford gave Samford the 25-20 set win.
In the third set, Samford jumped out to a 13-8 lead.
Mercer fought back to cut the lead to one at 23-22, but a Mercer service error and a kill by Lauren Deaton gave Samford the 25-23 set win and the 3-0 match victory.

FROM THE BOX SCORE

Lauren Deaton led Samford with 14 kills and eight digs.
Krista Boesing tallied 12 kills in the win.
Taylor Anderton led the team with 30 assists, and contributed a team-high nine digs.
