HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Samford women's basketball fell behind early and could not catch up as the Bulldogs fell at Southern Mississippi, 76-40, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Samford falls to 2-3 on the young season. Southern Miss improves to 3-1 with the win.

• Cassidy Williams followed with eight points for the Bulldogs.
• Charity Brown grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists for Samford.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Southern Miss scored the first 18 points of the game to grab a big early lead.
• Battle made a jumper for Samford's first points with nine seconds left in the opening quarter, ending the first quarter with the Golden Eagles leading, 18-2.
• USM pushed its lead to 21 points at 24-3 with 7:24 left in the second quarter.
• Samford cut the lead to 17 at 24-7, but USM closed the period with a 12-3 run to push its lead to 36-10.
• The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 30 at 40-10 early in the third quarter.
• At the end of three quarters, Samford trailed by a score of 54-28.
• Samford could get no closer than 26 points in the fourth quarter.
• Southern Miss closed the game with a 76-40 win.
