Women's Basketball Earns First Win Of Season Over Rhoades

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season in a 71-54 victory over Rhodes College Thursday night in the Pete Hanna Center. With the win, Samford improves to 1-1, while Rhodes falls to 0-1.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Samford junior guard Paige Serup scored a career-high 19 points in leading the Bulldogs to the win. She made 6-of-9 shots from the floor, including 5-of-8 from three-point range.
  • This marks the second-straight game Serup as scored a career-high total of points.
  • Natalie Armstrong scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Charity Brown scored nine points, and she had six rebounds and five assists.
  • Olivia Crozier added eight points for Samford.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samford jumped out to an early 15-4 lead, but Rhodes went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 15-10 with 4:14 left in the first quarter.
  • After a three-point play by Cassidy Williams pushed the lead to 18-10, Rhodes scored the final five points of the quarter to cut the lead to 18-15 at the end of the first period.
  • Samford pushed its lead to 21-15 early in the second quarter on a three-pointer by Serup, but Rhodes fought back to cut the lead to one at 21-20.
  • Samford closed the half with an 11-2 run to take a 32-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford pushed its lead out to 15 points at 37-22 with 8:19 left in the quarter.
  • With Samford leading, 44-29, Rhodes went on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 46-38 with 3:15 left in the third quarter.
  • Samford ended the third quarter with a 52-42 advantage.
  •  Samford scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to push its lead to 61-42.
  • Rhodes fought back to cut the lead to 13 at 67-54, but Samford pulled away for the 71-54 victory.
