Women's Hoops Falls On The Road At Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team fell behind big early and could not catch up as the Bulldogs dropped a 73-46 decision at Auburn Sunday afternoon at Auburn arena.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-8 on the season. Auburn improves to 8-1 with the win.

  • Shauntai Battle led Samford with 11 points.
  • Natalie Armstrong had 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
  • Charity Brown tallied nine points and seven assists, while Katie Allen added another nine points.
  • Janiah McKay scored 20 points to lead Auburn.
  • Daisa Alexander added 16 points for the Tigers.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Auburn got off to a hot start, racing out to a 13-2 lead with 4:44 to go in the first quarter.
  • The Tigers held a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Auburn pushed its lead to 17 points at 30-13 with 2:56 left in the second quarter.
  • After a Samford layup by Armstrong cut the lead to 30-15, Auburn closed the quarter with a 6-2 run to take a 36-17 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
  • In the third quarter, the Tigers pushed their lead to 30 points at 51-21 with 2:56 left in the period.
  • A three-pointer by Allen cut the lead to 51-24, but Auburn closed the quarter by scoring the last five points to extend its lead to 56-24.
  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to 58-33 with 7:21 to go after a three-pointer by Brown.
  • Auburn, however, pushed it lead to 31 points at 71-40, and the Tigers finished with the 73-46 win.
