Hot Shooting Night Lifts Women's Hoops Over Presbyterian

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team shot 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from three-point range on its way to a 75-54 win over Presbyterian Sunday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 3-5 on the young season. Presbyterian drops to 1-5 with the loss.

  • Samford's 72.2-percent effort from three-point range narrowly misses the school record of 72.7 set by the 2003 team at Belmont.
  • The Bulldogs' 13 made three-pointers were just two away from the school record of 15, which has been accomplished three times.
  • Samford shot 55.8 percent (24-of-43) from the floor overall.
  • Individually, Samantha Fitzgerald led the team with 18 points in the win.
  • Ta'Naisha Hill scored a career-high 13 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Charity Brown had 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Samford.
  • Olivia Crozier added 11 points in the win.
  • Salina Virola and Kacie Hall scored 17 points each to lead Presbyterian.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the first quarter, Presbyterian jumped out to an early 11-6 lead.
  • With Samford trailing, 14-9, Brown hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The teams traded baskets through most of the second quarter until, with the game tied at 26-26, back-to-back three-pointers by Brown and Fitzgerald, and a layup by Cassidy Williams gave Samford a 34-26 lead with 1:07 left in the quarter.
  • Samford took a 36-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • With Samford leading, 44-35, the Bulldog went on a 15-3 run to take a 59-38 lead with 1:12 to go in the third quarter following a layup by Crozier.
  • After three full quarters, Samford held a 62-41 advantage.
  • Presbyterian fought back to cut the Samford lead to 15 points at 64-49 with 7:28 to go in the game.
  • Samford answered with a 9-3 run to push the lead back to 21 points at 73-52 with 1:25 to go after a jumper by Fitzgerald.
  • Samford finished the game with a 75-54 victory.
