BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team scored a season-high 96 points in earning its first Southern Conference win of the season, 96-68 over VMI Saturday afternoon at the Pete Hanna Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 11-4 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon. VMI falls to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in league play.

- The 96 points are the most in a game for Samford this season, surpassing the 93 points the Bulldogs scored vs. Belmont.
- As a team, Samford shot 56.5 percent from the floor, including a 47.6-percent effort from three-point range.
- Samford was led by Ruben Guerrero with 23 points and nine rebounds.
- Kevion Nolan scored 15 points and dished out five assists.
- Josh Sharkey had 11 points and six assists.
- Logan Dye scored a career-high 11 points, and Stefan Lakic added 11 points as well.
- For VMI, Bubba Parham led the way with 24 points to lead the Keydets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Samford started the game off hot, racing out to an 11-2 lead with 17:03 to go in the first half after a jumper by Guerrero.
- VMI answered with a 10-0 run to take a 12-11 lead at the 13:34 mark in the first half after a jumper by Jake Stephens.
- Samford fought back to take a 16-12 lead with 12:25 left in the opening period after a jumper by Nolan.
- The Bulldogs stretched their lead to as many as 14 points in the first half and took a 42-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Samford pushed its lead out to 27 points at 64-37 with 13:00 to go in the game after a jumper by Nolan.
- The Bulldogs led by as many as 30 points in the second half at 77-47 with 9:57 to go following a layup by Dye.
- VMI could get no closer than 24 points the rest of the way as Samford closed out the 96-68 victory.
