MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought contest at Memphis, 53-48, Sunday afternoon at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-7 on the season. Memphis improves to 3-5 with the win.

- Ta'Naisha Hill led Samford with a career-high 17 points in the loss.
- Shauntai Battle scored eight points for the Bulldogs.
- Natalie Armstrong grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- Charity Brown dished out six assists for Samford.
- Taylor Barnes led Memphis with 15 points.
- Jamirah Shutes scored 11 points, while Jada Stinson added 10 points for the Tigers.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Memphis jumped out to an early 6-3 lead with 6:16 to go in the first quarter.
- Samford fought back to tie the score at 9-9, but a layup By Brianna Porter of Memphis gave the Tigers an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Tigers extended their lead to 15-9 early in the second quarter, but Samford fought back to cut the lead to two at 15-13 with 6:58 left in the period after a three-pointer by Cassidy Williams.
- Memphis extended its lead to seven points at 20-13 late in the quarter, but late Samford baskets by Paige Serup and Hill cut the lead to 20-17 heading into the locker room at halftime.
- Memphis scored the first seven points of the third quarter to push its lead to 27-17 with 7:43 left in the period.
- Samford answered with an 11-2 run to cut the lead to one point at 29-28 with 2:44 left in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Hill.
- Memphis scored the next six points to extend its lead to 35-28, but a late jumper by Battle but the lead to 35-30 at the end of the third quarter.
- With Memphis leading, 44-39, Samford came back with an 8-2 run to take a 47-45 lead with 1:37 left in the final period after a layup by Armstrong.
- Memphis, however, scored the next five points to take a 50-47 lead with 25 seconds to go, and the Tigers came away with the 53-48 victory.
