BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will return home to host the Mississippi State Bulldogs Tuesday evening at the Samford Softball Field.
The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and admission is FREE. The game can be seen online on the SoCon Digital Network.
Samford enters the week with a record of 5-20. The Bulldogs competed in the Easton Crimson Classic this weekend in Tuscaloosa. Samford lost twice to Fordham (4-1, 4-1), twice to Boston College (9-2, 4-0) and once to 13th-ranked Alabama (1-0).
For the season, senior center fielder
Shelby Maze leads the team with a .293 batting average with three doubles and three RBI.
Hannah Trombley is hitting .290 with three home runs and 13 RBI.
Whitney Hinton leads the team in home runs with four and in RBI with 16.
In the circle,
McKenna Gillespie has a team-best 4.72 ERA.
Taylor DeCelles leads the team with a 3-7 record and a 5.09 ERA, while
Annalyn Yantis has a mark of 2-4, to go along with her 4.99 ERA.
Mississippi State is currently 21-3 entering this week. The Bulldogs have won their last nine games in a row. MSU swept four games over the weekend, defeating Illinois twice Friday (9-5, 12-1), and downed UMass-Lowell on Saturday (9-1) and Sunday (11-0).
Samford and Mississippi State will meet for the 21
st time, with MSU holding an 18-2 advantage in the series. The teams last met on March 4, 2017, in a game that went 12 innings, with MSU coming away with a 6-5 victory.
