TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford softball team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in the Belmont/TSU Invitational, co-hosted by Belmont and Tennessee State this weekend.
Samford will play at Belmont Friday at 5:45 p.m. at E.S. Rose Park. The Bulldogs will then play at Tennessee State Saturday at 10 a.m. at Tiger Field. Samford will return to Belmont to play Rhode Island Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and the Bulldogs will wrap up play in the tournament against St. Bonaventure Sunday at 10 a.m. at Belmont.
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 5-21 on the season. The Bulldogs hosted 21
st-ranked Mississippi State Tuesday, falling to MSU, 11-1.
For the season, senior
Shelby Maze leads Samford with a .299 batting average, with three doubles and three RBI. Junior
Hannah Trombley is batting .290 with three home runs and 13 RBI. Sophomore
Whitney Hinton leads the team in home runs with four and in RBI with 16.
In the circle, freshman
McKenna Gillespie has a team-best 4.72 ERA. Sophomore
Taylor DeCelles leads the team in wins with three, while junior
Annalyn Yantis has two victories so far this season.
Belmont comes into the tournament with a mark of 14-4. The Bruins are coming off a 4-0 win over Mercer Saturday afternoon in a tournament at Kennesaw State.
Tennessee State is currently 3-19 entering the weekend. The Tigers dropped a 14-0 decision to Indiana State Sunday in a tournament at Memphis.
Rhode Island has a record of 1-15 on the season. The Rams fell at Middle Tennessee, 10-1 Wednesday evening.
St. Bonaventure enters the tournament at 3-9 on the season. The Bonnies are coming off a 10-0 loss to Morgan State Sunday in a tournament in Baltimore.
