BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will return home to host Alabama A&M in a doubleheader Wednesday at the Samford Softball Field. The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at 4 p.m.
Samford enters the week with a record of 7-23. The Bulldogs competed in the Belmont/TSU Invitational this weekend, posting a record of 2-2 in the event. Samford earned wins over Tennessee State (11-6) and Rhode Island (5-2), and fell to Belmont (2-0) and St. Bonaventure (8-0).
For Samford this season, senior center fielder
Shelby Maze leads the team with a .314 batting average with three doubles and four RBI.
Hannah Trombley is hitting .297 with three home runs and a team-high 17 RBI.
Whitney Hinton leads the team in home runs with four, and is second in RBI with 16.
In the circle,
McKenna Gillespie has a team-best 4.70 ERA.
Taylor DeCelles leads the team with a 4-8 record and a 5.25 ERA, while
Annalyn Yantis has a mark of 2-7, to go along with her 4.93 ERA.
Alabama A&M is currently 8-10 overall and 1-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play so far this season. The Bulldogs opened SWAC play with a home series against Prairie View A&M over the weekend. Alabama A&M won the first game, 8-5, but fell in the final two games by scores of 11-1 and 12-0.
Samford and Alabama A&M have met six previous times, with Samford holding a 6-0 series advantage. The teams last played on April 26, 2016 in a doubleheader at Samford. Samford earned wins by scores of 11-0 and 13-2.
