GAME NOTES

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will host Fort Wayne Tuesday at 4 p.m., and then take on Alabama State in a doubleheader Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Samford Softball Field.
 
Samford enters the week with a record of 3-14. The Bulldogs split a doubleheader at Tennessee Tech Sunday afternoon. Samford won the first game, 11-8, before falling in game two by a score of 9-5.
 
So far this season, Shelby Maze leads Samford at the plate with a .291 batting average with two doubles and three RBI. Maze was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week Monday for her performance in Sunday's doubleheader at Tennessee Tech.
 
Hannah Trombley is hitting .289 with a double, three home runs and 12 RBI for the Bulldogs. Kelsey Royalty is hitting .255 with five doubles, a triple and seven RBI.
 
In the circle for Samford, McKenna Gillespie has a team-best 3.87 ERA. Annalyn Yantis has a 5.35 ERA and a record of 1-4 so far this season, while Taylor DeCelles has a 2-4 record with a 7.39 ERA.
 
Fort Wayne comes into the week with a mark of 7-12. The Mastodons dropped three of four games at the Blues City Classic last weekend. The team defeated UMKC (4-3), before falling to Memphis (3-1), Louisiana-Monroe (7-0) and Bradley (7-3).
 
Alabama State is currently 5-14 on the young season. The Hornets went 1-4 at the EMU Florida Tournament over the weekend. ASU defeated LaSalle (6-2) and fell to Villanova (5-3), Eastern Michigan (4-1), Incarnate Word (3-2) and Buffalo (3-1).
 
Samford and Fort Wayne will be meeting for the first time ever in softball. Samford and Alabama State will be meeting for the 16th time, with Samford holding a 15-0 advantage in the series. The teams last met on March 31, 2015, with Samford earning a 6-1 win in Montgomery.
