BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team will step out of Southern Conference play to host in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Samford Softball Field.
At Tuesday's game, Samford athletics will take donations of nonperishable food items, bottled water and sports drinks in an effort to assist Jacksonville State University and the Jacksonville community in its recovery from the tornados of March 19.
Samford enters the week with a record of 11-26 overall and 2-3 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs dropped two-of-three games to Chattanooga over the weekend. Samford won the first game, 15-2 in five innings, but dropped the final two games by scores of 11-6 and 9-6.
For Samford this season, senior center fielder
Shelby Maze, who was named the SoCon Player of the Week earlier Monday, leads the team with a .378 batting average with three doubles, five RBI, and a team-high 23 runs scored.
Hannah Trombley is hitting .290 with four home runs and a team-high 22 RBI.
Whitney Hinton leads the team in home runs with five.

McKenna Gillespie has a team-best 3.84 ERA, to go along with her 3-7 record.
Taylor DeCelles leads the team in wins with a 4-10 record and a 5.77 ERA, while
Annalyn Yantis has a mark of 3-8, to go along with her 4.81 ERA.
Jacksonville State is currently 17-16 overall and 5-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Gamecocks swept a doubleheader at Murray State last Friday, winning the games by scores of 9-3 and 5-0.
Samford and Jacksonville State have met 59 previous times, with JSU holding a 39-20 advantage in the series. The teams met earlier this season in Jacksonville, with JSU earning a 3-2 win on Feb. 14.
The first pitch for Tuesday's game, originally scheduled for 5 p.m., has been moved to 4:30 p.m. due to expected inclement weather in the area. Admission to the game is FREE. Links to follow the game are below.
