GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford softball team will travel to take on the Furman Paladins in a key three-game Southern Conference series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT), and a single game Sunday, also at 12 p.m. (CT).
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 16-32 overall and 5-5 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs split a conference doubleheader at Mercer last weekend. Samford dropped game one, 6-5, but came back to take the second game, 7-3. The final game of the series was rained out.
For Samford this season, senior center fielder
Shelby Maze leads the team with a .429 batting average with three doubles, three triples, 11 RBI and a team-high 33 runs scored.
Ashlyn Barnes, this week's SoCon Player of the Week, is hitting .286 with two doubles and 13 RBI.
Kelsey Royalty is hitting .284 with eight doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI.
Whitney Hinton leads the team in home runs with seven and in RBI with 25.

McKenna Gillespie has a team-best 4.23 ERA, to go along with her 3-8 record.
Taylor DeCelles leads the team in wins with a 7-12 record and a 5.43 ERA, while
Annalyn Yantis has a mark of 4-11, to go along with her 4.82 ERA.
Furman is currently 34-11 overall and 6-4 in SoCon play. The Paladins swept three games against Western Carolina last weekend, winning the games by scores of 8-0, 8-0 and 7-0.
Samford and Furman have met 44 previous times, with Furman holding a 24-20 advantage in the series. Last season, Furman won two of the three games played in Birmingham. Samford won the middle game, 5-4, but fell in the first game (6-5) and the third game (9-0).
