CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- The Samford University baseball team will be competing in its final road series of the 2018 regular season this weekend as the Bulldogs square off against the Western Carolina Catamounts in an all-important Southern Conference three-game set to be held at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
 
The series is slated to open Friday at 5 p.m. (CT), while Saturday's game will also begin at 5 p.m., and the finale will be held Sunday at noon.
 
Samford (28-22, 12-6 SoCon) heads into the matchup with a deal of positive momentum after dropping in-state foe Jacksonville State on Wednesday, 9-7. With their win, the Bulldogs closed out the season with a solid 10-5 record against in-state opponents and earned the annual home-and-home series sweep of Jacksonville State. The Bulldogs have now won six of their last seven meetings with the Gamecocks.
 
Samford has also been triumphant in four of its last five games.
 
Since losing at home SIUE on April 28, the Bulldogs have earned wins against Jacksonville State and UAB, as well as a pair of key conference victories over Wofford last weekend.
 
Western Carolina (6-40, 4-17 SoCon) has been defeated in eight of its last 10 games, but nearly toppled No. 5-ranked Clemson on the road Wednesday, 10-8. The Catamounts were tied with the Tigers, 7-7, in the sixth inning, before Clemson rallied to score three runs down the stretch en route to a midweek victory.
 
Last week, Western Carolina took two out of three on the road against Furman to win their first series of the season.
