BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team opened Southern Conference play with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13) win over the Furman Paladins Friday night in the Pete Hanna Center. With the win, Samford improves to 6-9 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference matches. Furman falls to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in league play.
KEY MOMENTS
- In the first set, the teams stayed within two points of each other until, with the Bulldogs leading, 13-12, Samford went on a 5-1 run to take an 18-13 lead.
- Samford built its lead to 23-17, and the Bulldogs pulled away for the 25-18 win.
- Samford fell behind early in the second set, trailing Furman, 12-9.
- The Bulldogs fought back to take a 17-14 lead, and Samford built its lead to as many as seven points at 24-17, eventually taking the set, 25-20.
- In the third set, Samford held a 17-13 lead over Furman.
- The Paladins, however, fought back to take a 22-20 lead, and Furman held on to win the set, 25-23.
- In the fourth and final set, Samford raced out to a 14-7 lead.
- The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 10 at 20-10, and Samford pulled away for the 25-13 set win and the 3-1 match victory.

- Krista Boesing tallied 17 kills to lead the Bulldogs. Boesing now has 1,096 kills in her career, the 12th-highest total in program history.
- Lauren Deaton tallied 15 kills and 10 digs for the Bulldogs.
- Grace Tiesman had 33 digs, giving her 1,196 for her career, the fifth-best total in program history.
- Taylor Anderton contributed 53 assists to the Samford victory.
